boardalicious

As promised, my finished boards from my current Slow Fashion project.
These have been brought together through extensive research, which although interesting, is tres boring to look at pictures of, so er yeah.
This is for my own brand, Sleek Designs (kind of 'slow' and 'eco' without sounding too obvious and offputting). Its a knitwear company which uses natural yarns and fabrics and dyes, and aims to promote slow, sustainable prices.

Customer Profile:
 Mood Board:
Fabric Board:
You can see some of my naturally dyed fabrics and yarns on here.
In the fabric row on the top right there is one dyed with mushroom then iron water, second down on the left there is one dyed with walnut, then the third left has been dyed with walnut then iron water, and the third right has been dyed with carrot tops then iron water.
In the yarn row the bottom left has been soaked in Allum (a mordant) then dyed with carrot tops, and the bottom right has been soaked in Allum and dyed with red cabbage.

so knitty

Yeah so, went to Fairfield Yarns on Friday to get the yarn for my garment!
It was a bit of a trek; we totally forgot that Friday is really trafficky, we ended up in Oldham at first instead of Heywood, then on the way home pretty much the whole motorway was a traffic jam. Oh well.

Sorry about the blur-factor I have to use my phone.

This is the yarn for my garment, which I'm gonna use the 2.5 gauge Dubied machine for, I'll put up samples and design development for it later. It's a silk-lambswool mix.
Also got this mohair for a pound!
This Shetland wool for a pound!
And some free samples of jute (top) and hemp (bottom).
The last three are for my design development and portfolio module, for the mood board for my slow/eco fashion brand. More to come on that later.

Currently at home dyeing things naturally for it too. AHAHA.

tis the season to be jolly

Wow, been a hectic couple of days! Had about a million deadlines, Christmas shopping, car re-starting, and most important of all, a trip to London for some interviews for possible work placements!

Amazingly, I've been offered placements at both Cooperative Designs and Erdem! So so excited! 2011/12 will be awesommmeee.

Finally home in Durham now, gonna spend the holidays majorly chilling, possibly punctuated by revision and the last part of my Digital Design project, haa.

illustrator ilustrations

All I've done all day is work on my fashion illustrations for my Yohji Yamamoto collection. Literally thought of the outfits, drew them on paper, scanned them in, traced them into Illustrator, added knit details, added hair and features then finally added the title and stuff about 10 mins ago. I've been doing this since 12pm.

Just thought I'd put them up, cause I quite like them being monotone, but I have to add colour, boo.

I hate adding colour.

vince cable

Hi sorry I've been skiving again. I've been designing and watching Mad Men like nobody's business.
Here's what I did today.

Cabling is so awesome. I would have put knit samples up earlier but they haven't been that interesting up until now. Well, I think they're interesting but no one else would. But yeah, have done some machine Fair Isle and eyelet/ladder samples that I'll show you soon too.

Finally finished the group work for our Yohji Yamamoto design project.

Here are the customer board, mood board and fabric board; the outcomes from our EXTENSIVE research, hahaa.

Sorry for being so outfitty, it's only cause I've got new stuff. Probably the only new stuff I'm going to have for a while unless I win the lottery.

Another man's shirt, from H&M.

Having a Johnny Cash love-in at the moment. Although I just keep imagining Joaquin Phoenix.

Starting to design now, eek. It always makes me nervous until I get into the swing of it. I totally can't draw. Oh man.
